Personnel and Roles

  • Lead Forecasters: Responsible for producing the Outlook Forecast.
  • Focal Points: Authorise nowcasting and ensure resources are in place.
  • Coordinator: Facilitates operations and documentation.
  • WP2 Scientist: Scrutinises forecasts, communications, and procedures during INEs, advises in planning meetings, and plays a key role in post-INE analysis and evaluation.
  • Project Lead: Responsible for overviewing Extended Testbed Operations.
  • Outlook Team: Includes lead forecasters, coordinators, and scientists.
  • Nowcast Team: Activates if an INE planning meeting is called. Includes Outlook team, plus additional forecasters for nowcasting and WP2 Scientist.

 


 

When do we do Nowcasting Activities?

  • Community observers and other end users will only be notified when the nowcasting is absolutely going to happen.
  • Geographic Scope: Maputo (Boane), Lusaka (Kanyama), Johannesburg (Katlehong).
  • Thresholds for nowcasting; 20mm/3hr and 10mm/3hr for Oct-Dec and Jan-April, respectively; 30 mm/6hr for night and weekends.
